The Criterion Hotel
Rich in history and grandeur, this well-known public house re-opened its doors in November 2013 after undergoing immense refurbishment to restore the venue to its former glory – much to the delight of locals and travellers-alike, who hold fond memories of the hotel from years gone by.
The hotel is located in the CBD of Sale, close to Lake Guthridge and the main shopping strip. In 2017, the hotel added 13 new hotel rooms to add to their existing 3 rooms. All rooms have their own ensuites, Air Conditioning, 32 inch TV with Netflix, Queen & King Size Beds, Tea & Coffee making facilities.
The Hotel was built in 1865 by Charles Boykett. It originally had a two-storey timber veranda, but this was replaced by a cast iron veranda between 1880 and 1900. It is considered “one of the most impressive hotels in Victoria” and is listed on the Register of the National Estate.
